Jet boating in Taupo

Lake Taupo drains its mighty waters into the Waikato river, this is New Zealand’s longest river and we are looking forward to riding on it in the high powered jet boats, so clambering into the van that took a number of us around the town we headed out to our next appointment.

The Hukfalls jet boat is a high speed flat water experience. Out pilot was skilful (thankfully) as we speed up the river towards the mighty Huka Falls, we ducked under low trees, and slid around impossibly tight corners, with intermittent 360 degrees turns thrown in, ensuring we all got a little wet. This is a huge amount of fun, and suitable for the whole family.  www.hukafallsjet.com

At the base of the falls we were told how much water plunges through the narrow gorge, and it is hard to believe but it is a popular place for kayakers to ride down.

Back at the shore were ushered back into the van for our next stop.

Family things to do in Taupo Rock N Ropes

Just north of Lake Taupo, and placed beside the “Honey Hive” is the Rock n Ropes complex, it is as the name suggests a high ropes course, with climbing poles, swings, obstacle courses and balancing beams.

There are levels for all the family, and most provide a good test of nerves as you climb up to 12.5 metres off the ground; however there is no need to stress as Glen and his team will ably assist and encourage you as you make your way up and down.

The giant swing is a must do, and is best left as a reward at the end of your day

I took my daughter here for her 12th birthday, along with 6 of her friends, we chose 3 challenges for them to, after a few anxious moments they all made it through!
